Valentine's and Bugs Bunny on Broadway

What a fun weekend! Niels and I celebrated Valentine's Day early and went to dinner at a Italian restaurant in town. It was pretty good food and we had a good time. That was our "alone" date.

Today for a fun time and a great Valentine's Day (But no pics) we went to the Charlotte Symphony and saw "Bugs Bunny on Broadway" with the kids. This was a full length (2 hour) performance. It was all Warner Brothers Cartoons (Looney Toons etc) done to live music. Sounds interesting huh? We thought so. And it was very, very entertaining for sure! Only Aricin struggled some sitting and watching all that time.

Who knew Elmer Fudd's "Kill the Wabbit" was always a classical tune? The conductor even mentioned this. When he introduced it by the real name no one had heard of it, but when he said "kill the Wabbit" the whole audience erupted in laughter! 

Talk about precision! It is amazing that they can get that live music to synchronize with the cartoons and what happens in them exactly! They use a headset to help with the timing, meter changes etc. I guess for that kind of precision you would have to! 

Classics such and Wile E. Coyote and the Roadrunner, Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd to help us all smile. The only thing that made this afternoon better was getting to our favorite pizza joint for dinner (which was all decked out in pink, red and white ballons) and having a heart shaped pizza for dinner! 

Yippee! And Happy Valentine's Day!

Another Snow Day

It is another snow day today! We had a great snowstorm last night. It reminded me of being home in Utah! Big Goosefeather flakes and lots of them. The kind that if you are driving you have to look past the snow or you get really dizzy!

Here are the boys enjoying the snow. So far they have played in the snow almost all day!

It is quite cold though. This morning on my run it was 8 degrees! BRRRRRR! Now it is still below freezing but more tolerable than this morning. The boys seem to be layered up enough that they aren't too bad off. They must not be if they can play outside that long!

Now I am just wondering when the school make up day will be. Will they take it off spring break in April, or will they do like they did at the first of the year when we had a bad weather day (flooding) and have it on a Saturday. I am curious to find out

At Church

Ok so we are sitting outside the chapel at church today, on the couches. All of us were on the couch when an elderly lady comes into the church. Niels and Aricin promptly got up to give her a place to sit. Christian was sitting on my lap and no sooner had she sat down than he starts to strike up a conversation with her. His opener?

"You have lots of wrinkles. Kind of like my Grandma, but she doesn't have quite as many as you."

And laughing she says, What is your name? 

And Christian (kind of struck doesn't answer so I prompt him to say his name)

To which she replies "Well I bet I'm a bit older than your Grandma"

And he says "Well how old are you?

She replies "Ninety"

Christian (look of wonder in his eyes) "WOW, that is REALLY old. My Grandma is 66 and my Nannee is 70,"

She says "You are such a smart and very handsome boy"

Christian (blushes and smiles, and doesn't say anything)

And I say to her that I would not have guessed she was that old (she really didn't look that old and moved around very well) and she says "Well, it just kind of creeps up on you" 

then Christian chimes in again "Well you are lucky to be alive still"

And smiling she says "yes I am"

And then smiling again (thankfully she had a good sense of humor) she tells him what a handsome young man he is and then she heads into the chapel.

 I mean just think of everything she's lived through in 90 years. I was kind of in awe, and then thinking to myself "90 creeping up on you? Yeah, I can see how that can happen."

I mean really I feel like the last 9 years is really like 2 gone by so a whole lifetime creeping up on you? Yeah that seems kind of well, inspiring and scary!
