Our last day we headed to Wurzburg. This town has a lot of WW2 history. We wanted to tour the palace (below) but because it was fashing Tuesday, many things there were closed. That was ok though, we looked around a lot and got to look at the locals in their costumes for the occasion! We also ate at a yummy place (see pics below) and I had bratwurst and saurkraut again. Then Niels took a picture of my oogling over the yummy desserts! I did get one, it was a lemon layer cake. YUMMY!
The church we went to in Wurzburg was very old. The diocese was formed in 50AD, and the church was originally built in about 700AD. It was bombed by the British in WW2, and a lot of it had to be rebuilt. Niels could see that right away that the ceiling looked different and he knew it had been bombed and rebuilt. Smart guy, eh?
We had SO much fun here just taking it all in! It was very cold that day, and I was ready to head back to Staci's warm house! Then we had to pack and get ready for our early departure of 4am the next morning to get to the airport, return the rental car and head back on the 9 hour flight home!
Staci was such a gracious and wonderful hostess. We are so grateful that she let us stay with her and her cute girls! Thanks again Staci! Staci and I in picture above. I haven't seen her in person for 4 years or so until our trip;
