Rask Christmas 2009

We enjoyed a wonderful Christmas this year. I personally think our Christmas picture for this year is our best one yet! :) Our tree ended up being very tall, and bigger than it looked! It almost touched our ceilings (which are 9 ft), and was very, very bushy! We truly enjoyed decorating it. Niels almost wasn't going to put up my string of lights that are running shoe shaped, but I convinced him after a while that they are tradition! They are from one of our first Christmas seasons together. I got them as a gift when I bought a pair of running shoes at the Adidas shop.

We spent Christmas eve going to Calinda's church for a candle light service. It was a very good service where they had a woman act as Mary and tell her story in word and song. Following that and a lot of singing was their communion which was done as families at tables set up at the front of the Sanctuary. Then there was the actual candlelight part, where from one candle at the front by the head pastor all the others are lit. Several hundred in our case. This is done while Silent Night plays. And while this has been something we have done a few years in a row now and I truly enjoy it, it just isn't the same as Christmas Eve at my Aunt Pat's and Uncle Laren's with all of our extended family. There just isn't anything that compares to that.

So below are some gift opening fun pictures, one of the tree Christmas morning, and then our family picture that was sent out with our cards (in case you missed it!)

So much fun this holiday season and Christmas was just the beginning of it. On the 27th, Niels' mom Sharon came for a visit and just left today (1/17) so we have many more pictures and fun things to post.

Of course the true spirit of Christmas is with Christ as the center of our lives. We are extremely grateful to have Christ in our lives and to be blessed with all the fun things around Christmas in celebration of his birth. We are so grateful for all the wonderful friends and family that we have and we miss and love all of you! It was such a treat to get all the Christmas cards this year! I just loved seeing all the fun pictures of families and reading about your fun happenings over 2009.
