Biltmore Estate

How would you like THIS for your backyard? Just have a ridiculously rich family that you can inherit millions from and discover such a beautiful place before anyone else....
Ok, I'll wake up now!!!

(View off the 1st floor balcony into the "backyard")

When Kris and my mom and the baby were here we went to the Bilmore Estate the day after our stay at the Lake Lure Inn (see previous post). This is a place that you can definitely spend more than one day. I'd never heard of it until my friend Elizabeth mentioned it when we were moving to NC. (PS Elizabeth if you read this you still need to COME here and GO see it!) My mom knew all about it so it was something she really wanted to see. Ok this place is HUGE! It has 255 rooms and something like 43 bathrooms. They don't let you take pictures inside at all so all the pictures are outside. The Biltmore was built in 1896 for the estimated amount of 10 million (which was pretty much the owners total inheritance)The owner of the estate owned 10 of thousands of acres and eventually after he passed away in 1914 his wife sold 8000 of it to goverment to form the core for the Pisgah National Forest. Back in the day it would take a WEEK on horseback just to get to from the house to the end of the property line! CRAZY!

For me it felt SO crowded in there! I was informed by the parking attendant that this was a "slow" day! Lets just say I would NOT want to be there on a busy one then! The house is a one way tour. Once you start a floor or wing you can't turn around! I can see why they do it that way though to keep people moving! It took us 2 hours to do the house tour alone! Not to mention there are also gardens, a winery, and the farm. The boys did remarkably well considering there really isn't anything to "do" but walk and look in the house part of it. Christian listened to most the audio tour and told us about the secret doors and the like.
I would say of the whole house the basement was probably they boys' and my favorite part. There was a 9 1/2 ft swimming pool with a diving board, a 2 lane bowling alley (which the servants put up the pins for you) and the weight equipment of the day. The basement even had a "Halloween" room which had tons of Halloween murals on the walls. Cool stuff!

The pictures that have been going on my slideshow above are also from the Biltmore, the farm part. The boys really liked it there are more gardens, animals, and fun games. They even have a working blacksmith and woodworkers that give demonstrations.

Aricin in front of the Biltmore Estate. This picture was taken from REALLY far away so I could get the whole house and him in it!
There is mom, Aricin, Christian, Ayden and I in front of the estate.
Ayden and I taking a much needed break! Ice cream and cookies for everyone!

That looks awesome! I can't even imagine a house with that many rooms. Jeff once took me to a house in Park city that had 17 bathrooms and I thought that was a lot.
