Alright so I know it is Saturday but I just barely got time to sit down and write this. This last Monday when I was traveling back home to NC was truly a "Monday" kind of day. I was distraught at the least at having to leave my sister and her baby. At that time the thought did cross my mind to just catch the plane from Houston (my layover) back to SLC (the next gate over) :) Anyway on my leg of the journey back to Charlotte the poor stewardess asks me if I am going home and I just burst out into tears! She was just trying to be friendly but boy it just set me into tears. So we got to talking and she told me how her 2 sisters that have children live far away from her as well. Well I got myself together finally by the time we landed at which point it is POURING rain and went to get my luggage. Niels was picking me up in the Subaru. (for those of you that don't know we purchased a used Subaru Outback a couple months ago (funny story for a different post). So he gets out to be a gentleman and help me load my luggage. I tried the back door and it was locked so he goes to the front to unlock it. Flips the switch, and shuts his door. I try the door again, nope still locked...
Uh oh, I tell him to try his door. Yep it's locked! He accidentally flipped the switch the wrong way! In his defense the lock switch is backward you press it down to unlock it instead of up. So we are locked out of our car in the "pick up" zone of the airport with the car running! So the airport security calls the parking people to see if they can get into our car for us. Well about 10 minutes later they show up. No dice they can't try and get in because the car has side airbags and trying to get in that way can set off the airbags. So finally we call Niels Mom Sharon (who was with the kids at home) to come save us! She got there a little more than a 1/2 hour later. As she hands me the keys she's laughing. So I start laughing. Then I ask her what is so funny. Turns out this mode of being locked out of your car was fairly common in their family. A family trait of Niels' dad! Then I really started to laugh harder! It IS genetic!
What a day but at least my luggage made it on time right?
