Mother's Day 2008! What a Storm!

I can't believe the storm that just came through here! We just had golf ball sized hail! And a tornado touch down less than one mile from our house! We had just gotten back from a lovely Mother's day dinner at Chili's when the TV said we were on Tornado warning. It was already raining with a mix of hail in the front yard and wasn't doing anything in the backyard! That is really Eeerie to have different weather on different sides of the house. Then about 1 minute later they come on telling us that our county has seen golf ball sized hail! I told Niels to hurry and move the car but it was almost too late. It started hailing golf ball sized hail on our car! Being inspired yesterday, Niels had cleaned the garage totally out (it was an absolute disaster from moving) and then put the Subaru in. I sent him to the car with a mop bucket over his head to protect him, but he took it off to get in the car and then got pelted by a piece of hail on the head that made him bleed! The tornado touched down less than one mile from here. The same storm cell has killed 19 people in different states total so far...
We are so blessed and lucky too. It all happened so fast, I don't think we even would have had time to find shelter.
What a day for Mother's day! I feel lucky to even be alive! Of course the kids just thought it was totally cool to have hail that big and we didn't tell them how deadly the tornado could have been. This is our second near miss with a tornado. Less than a week after we moved into our house in Mahomet there was a Tornado less than 2 miles from our house. It was really scary, sounded very quiet and then like a train was coming through. We are grateful that no one was hurt!
